Roma vs Liverpool: Steven Gerrard reveals only concern for Reds in Champions League clash
LIVERPOOL players’ lack of experience in the latter stages of the Champions League is a concern ahead of tonight’s semi-final second-leg against Roma tonight.
That is according to legendary Liverpool captain and BT Sport pundit Steven Gerrard.
Jurgen Klopp’s side take a 5-2 lead to Rome this evening and are overwhelming favourites to make it through to the final.
However, it is the first time Liverpool have been at this stage of the competition since 2009, with none of that squad still at the club.
And Gerrard says that is his only concern heading into the second leg with Roma.
“The experience of being at this stage of the competition,” Gerrard said on BT Sport.
“It’s very important these Liverpool players stick together.
“There is going to be times in the game where they have to suffer.
“But it’s just important they don’t fall apart or if they go a goal down it doesn’t affect them and the wheels come off.
“They have to just believe in themselves and when the chances come, because they’ll get chances, the way this Roma team play and this manager the line is too high for Liverpool not to get chances, so when they get in, really, really be comfortable in front of goal.”
The La Liga side drew 2-2 with Bayern Munich last night, meaning they went through 4-3 on aggregate.
