Newcastle United have agreed to loan Dwight Gayle to West Bromwich Albion for the season, according to Sky Sports.
The Magpies have been looking to bolster their options in the final third and it is believed that a deal to land Salomon Rondon from the Baggies is imminent.
The report suggests that Gayle will head in the other direction as part of the transfer, with the Newcastle attacker heading to the Hawthorns on a season-long loan deal.
It is suggested that West Brom will pay £2 million to complete the temporary transfer, but have no obligation to buy him at the end of the season.
Gayle has shown that he can score goals for Newcastle but has not been consistent enough to make a lasting impression in the Premier League.
Rondon’s additional stature and hold-up play will be an asset for the Magpies, who have lost those attributes by selling Aleksandar Mitrovic to Fulham.
Newcastle start their Premier League campaign this weekend with a clash against Tottenham Hotspur, while West Brom were beaten 2-1 by Bolton in their return to the Championship.
